We're in the middle of Medicare open enrollment. What do you need to do? (Nov. 2021)

Read time: 2 minutes

We’re about halfway through Medicare’s annual Open Enrollment period, which runs from October 15 through December 7.

Are you a Medicare beneficiary wondering if there’s anything you should be doing? If so, April Taylor, product and market specialist with Physicians Mutual®, has some helpful answers to that question.

“A big misconception about Open Enrollment is that Medicare beneficiaries need to ‘do something’ with their health coverage,” Taylor said, whether it’s to confirm they want to keep what they have or make a change.

“It’s important for people to know that if they already have Medicare Supplement coverage they’re happy with, they don’t need to do anything with their Medicare Supplement plan,” she said.

They will, however, want to review their prescription drug plan (Part D) if they have that coverage, Taylor added.

“That’s because a lot can change during the year,” she said, “including your prescriptions, their cost, co-pays, and what’s included in the plan. A licensed insurance agent can help you with your Part D review to make sure you’re getting the most out of your prescription drug coverage.”

A Physicians Mutual family customer said it best:

Dear Physicians Mutual family, Thank you for making the Medicare Part D coverage review such an easy, no-stress process!* I provided a list of our medications to our agent. She took it from there. Ten minutes later, we had saved $6,000** for 2020! Wow! We were so pleased … we thought we were locked into the first Part D plan we selected. We weren’t.
