Anyone can slip. Practice these bath safety tips.

Read time: 3 minutes

Bath safety is important for people of any age. In fact, did you know 80 percent of falls in the home occur in the bathroom? These fall-related injuries can range from minor scrapes and bruises to broken bones, head injury and spinal cord injury. Be safe and practice these bath safety tips!

Have a proper grab bar

Don’t rely on towel racks or curtain rods to hold your weight. Install grab bars to hang onto so you can safely get in and out of the bath or shower.

Put down nonslip mats

Getting in and out of the shower or tub is one of the easiest ways to slip and fall. Make sure you have nonslip rubber mats in the tub and a nonskid bath mat just outside it. Clean up any water that gets on the floor.

Test the water

Before getting in, make sure you test the water first. Set your water heater to 120° to prevent burns.

Keep it clean

If you spill any hygiene products on the shower or tub floor, clean them up right away. Shampoos and shower gels can be very slippery when spilled.
